Which Pool is Right For Your Family?

Which Pool is Right For Your Family?

There are a number of pools to choose from for kids of all ages. One of the priorities all parents share is finding the one that is the safest for their children. Another aspect to consider is the amount of fun your child will have with a specific type of pool. After all, if they don't enjoy it, they won't want to use it. So what are some of the questions you should ask yourself when considering a pool for your kids? Here are some good examples:

Q: Which works best, the hard molded pools or the soft, inflatable kind?
A: For smaller children, the type of pool that you inflate can make it a lot easier to set up and take down at the end of the season without taking all of your storage space. If the one you purchase doesn't come with a motorized pump, it will be worth your while to invest in one. Inflated pools are great since you don't have to sorry about little ones bumping against hard sides but keep in mind, if you have pets that like to swim with your child, this type won't work well with claws.

Q: What about the pools that look like big fish or alligators?
A: They may seem really "cool" to some kids but may also frighten some of the smaller ones that don't like the idea of climbing inside a big, smiling fish.

Consider the area that holds the water in these pools, too. Sometimes, most of the size is in the appearance and the pool part is so shallow that it doesn't hold enough water for them to play in!

Q: My kids want to play in the pool until they get into it. How can I make it more fun for them?
A: There are a number of pools that have slides made into them and some of them are detachable. Even inflatable pools are available with this option so that children can enjoy sliding and you can rest assured that they will have a soft landing. Consider adding some fun pool toys as well. Even some plastic chops or a watering can will add play value to your pool.

Q: Are there any other special features I should look for?
A: If your child is going to be spending a lot of time in the pool, you may want to consider added protection from the sun. Some of the pools, especially those for smaller tots, are available with canopies to keep the sun out.

Q: What about pools for older kids?
A: The pools that you can assemble yourself can be purchased for a reasonable price, hold plenty of water, and require less maintenance than an in-ground pool.

No matter what pool you choose, there are some common safety precautions to take when your kids are swimming. Never leave children unsupervised around water, even for a few minutes, and always make sure they are using the pool and accessories in a safe manner.
